Effect of Water Jet Cavitation Peening on Short-Period Oxidation Behavior of Alloy 600 in PWR Primary Water

Water jet cavitation peening (WJCP) was used to strengthen the surface of nickel-based alloy 600. Residual stress, hardness, roughness, microstructure, and short-period oxidation behavior in untreated (UT) WJCP-treated 600 were characterized. A continuous oxide film formed on after a short period exposure, while it discontinuous UT specimen. The change attributed ultrafine grain dislocation structure resulting from WJCP treatment.
